A lot is going on these days. As the weather gets cooler, the Community continues to heat up. . .

News
  • New CorasWorks Web Site - Time for a change. We've updated the main CorasWorks web site with a new look and feel. We've made the most popular areas, such as, Products, the Community and the App Store more obvious and easier to get to. We've also added a Resources section where we have brought together videos, white papers, and event information.
  • CorasWorks in your City? (see Appearances tab) - We have been participating in many SharePoint Saturdays around the US. Check out the schedule for where we'll show up next and meet our people at the event.
  • Integrated Extranet-Intranet Solutions (for those that missed the Webcast) - From the joint Microsoft-CorasWorks webcast last week, it is clear that there is a lot of interest in extending SharePoint to the web. In this webcast we made the business case for "extranet" scenarios, introduced the X design pattern, provided case studies, and did a demonstration of a Community Extranet in the Cloud integrated with an on premise Intranet. This is the start of CorasWorks and our partners driving productized apps for the web. Click here to see the videos of the demonstration, download the presentation, and watch the webcast.
  • SP2010 Public Beta Released - On Wednesday Microsoft released the Public Beta 2 of Office and SharePoint 2010 to MSDN. You can download it here. See our note on v10.3 below for CW product info. Also, we'll begin releasing SP2010 apps in December.

Apps
  • App Onramp into Year 2010 - November is a big prep month for new apps. We are onramping a wave of new publishers with apps for Sales, Scheduling, Document Management, Web Scenarios, and new types of Collaborative apps. We are prepping our first wave of apps for SP2010. And, CW and existing publishers are finishing "solution suites" for the upcoming launch of CorasWorks in the Cloud at Fpweb.net. These products will start hitting the streets in December.
  • Virtual Slide Show (by CorasWorks) - This app is really a service. It enables you to centrally configure content from across a SharePoint environment into a slide show format that is then put at the fingertips of users. Since its initial release it has mainly been used for passive content. However, increasingly it is being used for real time reporting pulling data from many data sources by leveraging the Data Integration Toolset.
  • Task Management Console (by Future Structure) - Perhaps you've already implemented the CW Project Portfolio Management solution. This app complements it by giving you a robust display and action set to automate peoples work with tasks - in one list, many lists, located in the current site or across sites, site collections, or web applications. It is a Task Console.
  • Time Off Management (by R3 Solutions) - You use this app for people to request time off and then manage the requests and report on them. It can be installed anywhere and people can enter their requests from wherever they work. It can also feed departmental or organizational calendars. A great addition to your Employee Services portal.

Resources
  • New Product Documentation Resource - Sometimes our product documentation that is part of the download, doesn't seem to make it into the hands of the many builders in organizations. So, to make it easy we've decided to create this library for Product Documentation that is open to all Community members. We've started with Workplace Suite documentation. We'll be adding Data Integration Toolset documentation. We'll also use it to publish Quick Starts that focus on particular capabilities, features, tips, and scenarios.

Blogs
  • Absolutely, Positively 100% Unigue IDs (From the Field - Steve E) - You want it, we have it. Steve gives you an overview of the Workplace ID field that delivers what you need here.
  • One Million Items in a Lookup!!! (Adam's Blog) - Try picking from 1m items, or 100,000. It is not fun. Adam talks about using the URL to XML Filter to force users to enter some info to filter on so that the amount returned in workable for the user and the system.
  • No Need to Type the Whole. . . (From the Field - Steve E) - Steve's introduces you to the AutoComplete Lookup. Type a bit and let it find the hits.
  • The Power of the Perfected 80% Solution (William's Blog) - This article keeps raising its head in conversations, particularly as there are more CW-based apps and people shift to customizing vs. building. The CW App, because of the flexible design, is becoming the starting place for a new methodology in delivering the end-solution to the user.
