Last week’s initial issue of Community Update introduced you to the Community and the Getting Started page with Intro Videos and an FAQ. With this issue we’ll settle into our standard format of providing you with general CorasWorks news and links to new and popular items in the Community.

News
  • The SharePoint 2009 Conference is next week. We’ll be joining 6,000 people in Las Vegas to go deep on SharePoint. We hope to see you there. Stop by Booth #509 to see CorasWorks apps running on SharePoint 2010. During this week we’ll be making a number of announcements about our products and apps for SP 2010. See this press release for details. Stay tuned. . .
  • This week we announced our Q3 wins. We had a great Q3. Thanks for your continuing business.

Community Highlights

Apps
  • Project Portfolio Management (by Corasworks) – This is a robust solution that will be the core for our approach to projects . It gives you deep project management and distributed portfolio management – all in one. It is our first Suite-Toolset combo app.
  • Free Blog-Style Announcements Service (by Spirit) – This is a cool take on Announcements. A service that aggregates them from your environment and serves them up in a Blog-Style display (which we think is a new type of display). Make sure to check out the video. Uses the Toolset.
  • Budget Change Request Management (by R3 Business Solutions) – This app addresses the need to track budget changes. Ever need to re-allocate budget items or change budgets. Now, you have a way to get it approved and maintain a history.

Tip: Use the Browse By navigation to see apps by Department, Solution Category, and Product.

Note: As a CW customer on PASM, apps published by CW are free to you. Make sure to log in to get the $0 price when you add them to your cart. See the blog article below for more details.

Resources
  • App Basics Video Library – This video library has a set of 7 end-user oriented videos. These short videos give end-users tips on using CorasWorks - like moving dates forward and backward by just entering a number (great for shifting task dates forward or backward).
    • Tip: The library has an action called Fetch. Use this to email the content including the direct video link to yourself. You can then send the information to end-users or post it instead of sending them to the Community, which may be a bit overwhelming for end-users.
  • Your First App Video – In the same App Basics library is the Your First App video. It walks you through the entire process of finding, downloading, uploading, instantiating, test using, customizing and connecting up an app (in this case Work Order Approval). It does it in very near real time – it takes 13 minutes.
  • Application Evolution White Paper – If you haven’t seen this white paper, give it a read. It tells a story of how an organization takes a simple Work Order Approval app and extends it into 5 different flavors/uses. The stages are very natural stages of how apps tend to evolve forward. From the Architects Library.

Blogs
  • William's: App Store Apps: Free to CW Customers on PASM – This lays out how it works. Main takeaway – make sure to login when you go to the App Store – you’ll get more free apps.
  • From the Field: One Click Email Approvals – This article describes how you can use the Toolset to pop off emails with an embedded one click choice to approve or reject items. No need for the user to even go into SharePoint.
