Features of the Toolset

The Data Integration Toolset provides a comprehensive, integrated feature set to build composite applications on SharePoint without requiring custom code development.  It is not a standard composite application environment like those on other platforms, but rather, it follows a unique design that is optimized for the underlying modular architecture of SharePoint.

This section explores the extensive feature set of the Toolset.  Make sure to also read about the top Composite Application Design Patterns supported by the Toolset and visit the corresponding demonstrations in our hands-on Breeze environment that show you how to put the features to work.

Feature sections are as follows:

General Features – The Toolset has a number of core design features, including modular component-based development model, XML API, n-tier architecture, Passthrough™ technology and global configuration.

Displays – The Toolset comes with off-the-shelf configurable displays, a custom display adapter for building custom displays, and support for third-party displays.

Workplace Fields for SharePoint – The Toolset provides a powerful set of custom fields that can be added to SharePoint and used in lists and libraries.  These Workplace Fields provide integration of data directly into the lists and libraries.

Business Forms – Included with the Toolset are tools to build custom read-write business forms.  These business data forms include the functionality provided by Workplace Fields for SharePoint.

Data Adapters – Data Adapters are used in the middle of the application stack to consume data, manipulate it, and then provide it to other consumers. Our data adapters support Passthrough™ parameters, mashups, caching and business data analysis.

Data Services and Providers – At the core of the Toolset are data services that allow you to connect to data from external sources, applications, and SharePoint. The modular architecture allows you to create and configure each data connection through a component, instead of writing custom code.
