CorasWorks is Ready for the SharePoint v3 & MOSS 2007 Era…Are You?

The short answer is, if you are currently or soon to be a CorasWorks customer, you are quite ready. If you’re not a customer, it’s time to print this newsletter and read up because the era of SharePoint v3 (Windows SharePoint Services v3) and MOSS 2007 (Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007) is here.

The initial SharePoint v3 products have begun shipping. The CorasWorks Workplace Suite for SharePoint v3 is in Beta and readying for release later in Q4. This edition of the Workplace Monthly newsletter features two articles exploring CorasWorks’ offerings in the new v3 era. In this article, we’ll dive into our transition into v3 and the new CorasWorks offerings we’re releasing on v3 that will help you seamlessly migrate your v2 design to a v3 environment. Our following article, “Embrace, Expose, and Extend: Integration Scenarios for SharePoint v3 and MOSS 2007” discusses how CorasWorks integrates with new SharePoint capabilities using the examples of Workflow, Forms Server, and the Business Data Catalog.

“Embrace, Expose, and Extend” – Our Platform Integration with SharePoint v3/MOSS 2007

SharePoint v3 and MOSS 2007 provide a host of extremely valuable platform capabilities that are a bit “buried” out of the box. They require technical work to expose their functionality and make them available to end-users in a business context. Also, many of these capabilities, such as Windows Workflow, are site-bound or otherwise constrained without custom work. The new CorasWorks Workplace Suite on v3 is designed to integrate with these capabilities, expose them to end-users in the business context of your applications, and extend their use and functionality across your full workplace environment. We refer to this as our “Embrace, Expose, and Extend” approach to platform integration. Let’s review how CorasWorks on v3 (2007) accomplishes this with the three new Microsoft capabilities of Windows Workflow, Forms Server, and the Business Data Catalog.

Now “In Color”- CorasWorks Calendars Help You Visually See All Types of Data

You may already know that CorasWorks calendar roll-ups display information from across sites to provide you with a consolidated calendar for a day, week, or month at a time. But did you know that they can do a lot more than just show events on a calendar? For example, did you know that you can create a calendar of any list, library, or gallery items that have a date field? And did you know that each type of item on a calendar can now be color-coded? Serving up “Gourmet” Business Solutions in a Fraction of the Time…

What can a TV dinner teach us about solutions on the SharePoint platform? I experienced this little lesson during a recent visit to the supermarket. In the frozen food section, I noticed a five course meal in a box and questioned why they’ve lost popularity. They are inexpensive, convenient, cover the spectrum of food groups, and even include dessert – all on the same plate. It’s not unlike off-the-shelf software or business applications, where we’re given a number of pre-set features, served up together in a single package, all to fulfill a particular need. In both cases, however, there is evidence that consumers want and need more. They want more flexibility and choices, better quality, and usually need it all within certain time and budget constraints.
