Reston, VA – July 29, 2008
– CorasWorks Corporation, a leading provider of modular
application development software for Microsoft’s SharePoint platform, has announced
the release of the first of six white papers in its modular application development series.
The white paper, titled “7 Barriers to Success with SharePoint,” details the seven key
structural “barriers” encountered by developers when using SharePoint as an
application development platform.
“Over the last 5 years working with hundreds of customers, we’ve learned a great deal
about how organizations can best leverage the SharePoint platform,” said William
Rogers, Founder and Chief Workplace Architect at CorasWorks. “Now, through this
white paper series we are making this knowledge available to developers, CIOs and
business decision-makers who are seeking to maximize their SharePoint investments.”
Microsoft® SharePoint has experienced rapid and broad adoption. Microsoft has sold
more than 80 million end-user licenses and, by the beginning of 2008, more than 10,000
organizations were deployed on SharePoint. It is moving from a collaboration tool to an
application development platform. Some organizations have realized dramatic
increases in business value by leveraging the SharePoint platform to build out robust,
web–based, virtual work environments. However, most organizations have used – and
are still using – SharePoint as primarily a general collaboration tool.
“Organizations often start out quickly and successfully with general collaboration –
sharing documents and other information via SharePoint team sites,” said Rogers.
“However, as they move towards more powerful applications, they quickly encounter
significant technical barriers with corresponding costs and challenges that cause their
progress to stall. This white paper will help the SharePoint community understand and
overcome these barriers.”
In “7 Barriers to Success,” CorasWorks explores the path successful organizations take
to increase business value with SharePoint. This white paper also presents the concept
of “the Wall” and the seven core structural barriers in SharePoint that make up the Wall
and constrain the ability of organizations to continuously add business value without
extensive costs. The white paper concludes with a discussion on how third party
products, such as those from CorasWorks, help organizations overcome these barriers
and turn SharePoint into a continuous value improvement platform.
